“Being safe is about being seen and heard and allowed to be who you are and to speak your truth”

Lizzy Bickerton Open MInds Counselling

Hi, I am Lizzy and I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working in Lincolnshire.

I offer both short term intervention or longer term work. I work within a humanistic and person-centred approach that puts the client at the heart of the counselling relationship. I also have an interest in using the expressive arts to help facilitate therapeutic growth and using mindfulness techniques to help us live more actively in the here and now. I work with the client’s own frame of reference, working in a way that is best suited to the client’s needs.

I believe that all human beings have a capacity for personal growth and have an innate resilience to overcome struggles in a way that is meaningful to them whatever their circumstance.

My role as a counsellor is to support clients to recognise their own strengths and resourcefulness in a safe environment where they can feel heard, accepted and are able to explore their thoughts and feelings to live in a way that feels more genuine to them and increases their own well-being.

I remain continuously passionate and curious about human beings and the way we continue to develop and strive for survival in the most difficult of circumstances. I am reminded on a daily basis of the innate goodness of people when working with clients and feel privileged that they may allow me to be with them for a time on their own journey through the counselling relationship.

In addition to private practice I am currently employed as counsellor for an organisation that supports people of all ages who have been affected by sexual violence. I am experienced with young people in secondary schools and within university settings. I have additional experience of working with those affected by domestic violence and complex trauma. My previous background is within social care, education and the charity sector in particular working with those who have learning disabilities and complex needs including mental health.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and work within their own ethical framework. I hold an enhanced DBS and relevant professional liability insurance.
